Get the Hottest Look for Homecoming

Last weekend at our free monthly workshops in NY and LA, we demonstrated how to achieve the hottest look for homecoming and apply it like a professional. Just in case you missed the workshops, we will share with you the step-by-step tips on how to get back-to-school with this perfect fall look!

All eyes on lips for this homecoming! Back to school trends use subtle eye colors with a classic glamour liner or a soft smoky lower lid for definition. You can go high glam or low smoke – it’s completely up to you. Either way, make sure to leave the color for the lips. Choose one of the two top lip colors this season: an orange-red or a dark-berry.

Face: First and foremost, begin with a blank canvas. Prep the entire face with Face Primer and a MUD Professional Make-up Sponge. After the face is primed, lightly buff MUD’s Cream Foundation from the top of the forehead down and into the neck area with a sponge. For areas that need more coverage, stipple the foundation until you have the desired coverage. Set the foundation with Loose Powder and the #710 Powder Blush Brush to achieve a gorgeous porcelain appearance.

Eyes: Shape and fill in the eyebrows with the Taupe Eye Pencil and the #210 Angle Liner Brush. This will allow a softer brow, long lasting wear and a guide for your Eye Color. When applying eye color, do not exceed the outer corner of the eye. Use the outer corners of the nose, eye and eyebrow as a guide. Start with a neutral shimmery Eye Color on the lid and brow bone. Eye Colors like CashmereHoneysuckle, and Dulce de Leche when swept with a #330 Shadow Fluff Brush are a few of many highlight colors perfect for this occasion. For a subtle contour, lightly dust the ChamoisCanyonTaupe or Spanish Gold in the crease with the #800 Crease Brush. Blend the shadow to create a soft gradient of color from dark to light, with the darkest area in the crease.

Next, choose a liner for definition….High Glam or Low Smoke!

High Glam Look: For a precise, defined look use a Cake Eyeliner with #100 Round Liner Brush. To activate the Cake Eyeliner, spray the water onto a Stainless Steel Palette and spin the brush in the water to create a fine point. Never spray directly into the product.Mix the product until it reaches the desired consistency. Make sure to spin the brush to keep the tip fine. To achieve a glamour look with eyeliner, lay the brush flat from the inner corner of the eye while hugging the lash line. Drag the brush to the center of the lid. Relax your eye, look straight ahead and place a small dot on the outer corner where the end of the wing should end. Reload your brush and place the tip on the dot and drag your brush toward the center. Fill in the liner to even the color out. Use the same Eye Color that you used in the crease as a drop shadow on the lower lash line with a #210 Angle Liner Brush. Finish this High Glam Look with a coat of Cream Mascara or Volumizing Mascara.

Low Smoke Look: To define the eye with a slightly softer appearance, use a #810 Smudger Brush with the Onyx Eye Color. Place the brush on the outer corner of the lower lid and lightly sweep the Onyx Eye Color to the tear duct. Then move the brush back and forth from the outer corner to the inner corner while blending downward to soften the line. Finish the Low Smoke Look with a coat of Cream Mascara or Volumizing Mascara.

Cheeks and Lips: Most people can wear warm or cool undertones. However, the rule is that the cheeks and lips should be in the same family. Here are two different looks that look amazing on fairer to darker skin tones.

For the hottest warmer undertone this season, use the Tulip Color Creme on your cheeks with a MUD Professional Make-up Sponge#940 Foundation Brush or finger. Buff the Tulip Color Creme on the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion and lightly blend back into the center of the cheekbones. Load a #310 Lip Brush with the Tulip Color Creme and apply to the upper and lower lip. Top it off with the Spicy Lip Glaze.

For the coolest look with a cooler undertone, use the Sun Rose Color Creme on your cheeks with a MUD Professional Make-up Sponge#940 Foundation Brush or finger. Buff the Sun Rose Color Creme on the apples of the cheeks in a circular motion and lightly blend back into the center of the cheekbones. Load a #310 Lip Brush with the Sun Rose Color Creme and apply to the upper and lower lip. Top it off with the Java Lip Glaze.
